Las Vegas!!!

Joe went to Las Vegas for a CFO (chief financial officer) conference last weekend and I tagged along.  We fly out there on Wednesday and returned Saturday night.  The conference was at The Bellagio and that's where we stayed.  Very nice.  This was a view from our room on the 28th floor looking west toward the Red Rock canyons.



Saturday, to burn some time before our return late afternoon flight, we drove out to Red Rock Canyons and went through the park.  Here were some rock climbers.



One night we went and ate at Hard Rock Cafe (we have eaten at ones in various states). Anyway they made us walk across the red carpet and took our picture. We were going "really? Do we have to?"  But the picture actually turned out pretty good so Joe bought it.

This is Chiluly glass art that is in the ceiling of the lobby of the hotel.  Oklahoma City has a huge Chiluly glass art exhibition at the OKC Museum of Art.

I also went down to The Mirage to go into the Kardashian Khaos store.  I bought Kristen a shot glass.  The girls (and I) like to watch Keeping Up With the Kardashian's on TV.

May Happenings

While I was in Spartanburg, Joe went turkey hunting with one of his friends in Southwest Oklahoma.  He got him a turkey - so I guess we are set for Thanksgiving.

 Last Saturday night, we went over to a friend's house to watch a Thunder playoff game.  I tried to take a picture of the "supermoon" but I really didn't think it was that big.  I've seen it a LOT bigger before.  I think in other parts of the world it did look bigger, just not here in Oklahoma.  After the Thunder won the game over the Dallas Mavericks in a "sweep" the boys had to get brooms and act silly.

I also purchased some yarn while in Spartanburg and I'm set up to make another moebius cowl.  I'm going to work on this one while I'm in Las Vegas this coming week.

40th High School Reunion - April 27-28

The weekend of April 26-30, I came home to Spartanburg for my 40th high school reunion.  I had a great time and I enjoyed visiting with my family too.  I just got my group picture in the mail today.  I'm sitting on the front row right behind the fire pit.  I think the final total for that night was 190 people from our class of over 900 showed up. I felt good when I received several emails on Facebook that I looked very good, didn't look my age but looked 10-15 years younger than everyone else, and that everyone enjoyed watching me dance.  Great motivation to keep doing what I'm doing.

April Happenings

 A couple of weeks ago, I got in my sewing room and decided to go through my patterns and get them organized. I cleared out one drawer of the chest and put just COSTUME patterns in there. Whatever you want to be I probably have the pattern for it.

Last Friday, we had a tornado come through Norman - very close to our house but even closer to my office. This car dealership sits right in front of our office.  They closed the street off because of the electric/telephone poles that snapped off.



This apartment complex is located a half-block down from our office.  The roof came off and I don't think they are going to repair.  These apartments have been here since I've lived in Norman (30 years).

 
 Our church decorated for Easter. You can't see the Cross covered in lilies very well from my angle.  There were lilies across the front of the church too. I had one put on the altar for Macky.

Yesterday I went to a Zumbathon with one of my friends from church. The fundraiser was for Cystic Fibrosis.  I had a great time.  I love Zumba! 

 



 



Today was our annual Prayer Shawl Ministry tea.  Everyone was waiting to see what I would come up with this year.  I fooled them, I did NOT make my fascinator. I found one at Hancock's Fabrics about 3 months ago on sale.  We always have so much fun with our PSM group.

Oh Happy Day!

Kaitlyn got her official letter of acceptance today from the College of Dentistry Dental Hygiene program at the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center (located in Oklahoma City). This means she can finally "plan her life out" (to quote her). This means she and Michael will DEFINITELY be moving to Oklahoma City in the next couple of months. It means she won't really be able to have a job for the next two years. Her "job" will be attending class every day from 8 to 5. She will be wearing scrubs the rest of her life (just kidding) but she has to wear them to class every day. Her tuition just doubled. :-( She is required to work community dental clinics for community service. And for those of you who don't know what this REALLY means: a dental "assistant" is one who attends classes at a vo-tech and they "assist" in the dental office. A dental "hygienist" has completed two years of college (Kaitlyn has 3) and goes through a 2-year comprehensive program (receiving a B.S. in Dental Hygiene), has to pass state board exams, and when finished - keeps her own schedule and sets her own appointments - usually working 3-4 days a week (like the dentist), sometimes working in several dental offices. The dentist just looks over her work when she is done. She has said that she would really like to work with children in teaching them how to keep their teeth clean. Kristen and Kaitlyn had such a great pediatric dentist/orthodontist; they both had great experiences (Kristen started out wanting to be an orthodontist but decided she didn't want to go to school that long which is also why Kaitlyn doesn't want to be a dentist). They both cried when Dr. Parker told them they were too old to keep coming to him (Lorna even met Dr. Parker - he is originally from North Carolina). Needless to say, we are very happy and proud in the Jondahl house today.

A Crafty Week

I've had a crafty week. Last weekend I was moseying around in Tuesday Morning Inc. and found these deals - three sets of different sized knitting needles for $1.99 and five sets of different sized yarn needles for $.99. Can't beat that. I flew it up on Facebook for my Norman knitting friends to see if they wanted in on my find too.I look at the website, Pinterest, alot. I found several ideas and decided to come up with one of my own. So I drew a cupcake pattern on the back of a Braum's sack.

Made a "rag" tutu using the cupcake fabrics. I'm going to try and embroider the cupcake on a white t-shirt with my new sewing machine. I'm making this to bring to Audrey when I come in a couple of weeks.

I participated in March Madness at the YMCA this month. If you go to the Y a minimum of 18 times, you get a free t-shirt. Woohoo! I got my free t-shirt. This is only the 2nd one I've received in about 15 years of membership.

I also signed up to take a mobius cowl knitting class at our local yarn shop. The trick is in the cast-on. Once you learn that it's a breeze. I took the class yesterday morning (Saturday). After I cast on my 75 stitches this is what it looks like. It's the strangest thing ever.....

I'd knitted 3 rows and started purling by this point. So it's growing.

I had the project completed by the time I went to bed. It turns into an infinity cowl/scarf -- there is no end and there is a twist in it. So there are no seams. Anywhere.

Here I am modeling it. I want to make some more of these. It was a very quick project by my standards. I want to learn how to make it a little longer, however, as I prefer mine not to be so short.

This weekend is also the Medieval Faire here in Norman. I rode my bicycle up there today after church just to look around. I was specifically looking for a yarn bowl and I found one!! An artisan from Kansas had a booth and had just what I was looking for. You can either use one of the holes on the side or there is a swirly cut-out on one side that you can slide the yarn down through. It keeps the ball from rolling around and falling on the floor. Love it!

Intramurals - AOII

Kaitlyn is playing on her sorority soccer team for intramurals this spring. They won their first two games but lost the one today that Joe and I went to. Oh well, it was fun to see her play soccer again (she ended her soccer career in 2004) even though she is way out of shape. At least she knew what she was doing, some of the other girls on her team hadn't played soccer since grade school rec. Their goalie played junior college soccer so she was really good. This was pre-game waiting on Kappa Alpha Theta to show up. They waited until about 3 minutes to forfeiture to finally show.

Kaitlyn is very competitive so when things weren't going well, she moved up to play mid-field, but they still lost to the Thetas. Theta is top house on campus (Randy and Kay's daughter, Rainey, is a Theta but she doesn't play sports.)
