Dental Hygiene School

Last week, on the 2nd day of school, someone rear-ended Kaitlyn on the highway.  Thank goodness it was bumper-to-bumper traffic or it could have been a lot worse.  The right back end of her car is messed up but she was okay.  That was her first "wreck" so she was shaken up but not hurt.  Dad came to the rescue but then sadly said when he came home - it's just not the same as when she lived here in town.  Anyway, today, someone in her class posted a picture of some of the girls (there are only 24 selected for the program each year).  Kaitlyn is on the far left.  Don't they look cute in their scrubs?

Creative Weekend

This weekend Joe is in Colorado having fun riding mountain bikes, fishing, and playing golf. And, I'm at home (yes, I could have gone with him, but chose not to) having fun creating things.  That's what I like to do. I mentioned before I would post what I was doing with the material I purchased.  This skirt below is not finished yet. I haven't sewn the material on the pockets YET. But I'm going to. I will wear this with my red cowboy boots.

And the pretty rhinestoned red belt I bought in Las Vegas.  The picture doesn't do it justice.  It is very bling-y!

I found this t-shirt yesterday at the new Fan Outfitters store that just opened up this week.  I really liked the shirt and did not want to cut it up. Soooo, I actually made a "skirt" that I can wear up high or close to my waist, whatever I feel like that day. I put black & white polka-dotted grosgrain ribbon at the top and used it as casing for the elastic.
I had a black belt that I can wear over the polka dots if I want.

Here's the finished product complete with my red cowboy boots.

I stopped by the Salvation Army store (which fortunately is close by my house) and purchased this metal tray for $3.99 yesterday.  (I also saw this on Pinterest.)

I went to Michaels and purchased some chalkboard paint.  They had black, blue or mint green.  I chose the mint green which kind of goes with my kitchen/laundry room.  I can't get to the old sidewalk chalk in the garage or I'd test it out, but I did put some refrigerator magnets on there.  Will either hang it on the wall in the laundry room or purchase an easel and place in on the Hoosier cabinet in the kitchen. I put two coats of paint on there.  It looks good but I may add another coat.

August Update

Last week as Rush was winding down, Kaitlyn went home to OKC then the very next day had to go to 3 days of orientation at the OUHSC. She brought her scrubs home this past weekend and I had to alter the pants for her. She tried on her scrubs for me.  This is the color that her class picked out to wear. She has to wear them 4 days a week to school for the next 2 years.  On the other day, they have to dress up (Business casual) like they were in an office.  No more rolling out of bed with no makeup and no shower and going to class.......

While Kaitlyn was here, Kristen spent a couple of nights with us too and she complained about having to sleep with Kaitlyn.  So Joe crawled up in the attic and brought down the day bed (it has a trundle underneath).  Both girls slept in this bed when they got old enough to get out of the crib.  We put up a side rail (that slips underneath the mattress) on the open side so they wouldn't fall out. I had Kristen's bedding from when she was in the sorority house and I'm using it on the bed. HA! This is set up in my "sewing room."  I had to take out my cutting table however "for the team."

I still haven't moved the pictures that used to be over Kristen's queen bed in her room.  I plan on moving them over the day bed (one day).  The material below I found and I want to use it to make another OU dress.  My inspiration was the dress below that I found on Pinterest.  I couldn't find any chevron material that had OU colors so I went with the paisley.

I also liked these shorts I found on Pinterest.  I would like to sew some of the paisley material on the back pockets of my blue jean skirt or perhaps cut an OU out and applique it on the pockets.  We'll see.  I'll post pictures if I do it.

This is a sampler that I did of berries in 1982.  I gave it to mom and it hung in her living room for awhile but she gave it back to me when she repainted and redecorated that room.  I haven't hung it yet but it's temporarily in my sewing room for now.

Go On and Do It, Do It, Do It 'til you're organized....

Last night while I was wondering how the "Pref Night" parties were going for Kaitlyn (she sang a solo, "You Loved Me" by Celine Dion), I decided to do something I saw on Pinterest. This was the idea I "pinned" from Pinterest.  I had a drawer that had all my spatulas, serving spoons, the mixer attachments, graters, etc. in it (jumbled).

So I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy some drawer dividers.  These are by Real Simple (I love that magazine) and they came in 2 long ones and 4 short ones.  Unfortunately, they didn't fit in the drawer I wanted them to (too tall for the drawer), but I had a larger drawer that was somewhat more of the same junk in it so I cleaned out TWO drawers, re-papered them, and set the larger one up with the dividers.  Now it looks a lot better and I can find stuff!

Today, after "Bid Day" bids went out and all the new girls came to the sorority house, Kaitlyn came home to our house and packed up her suitcase and went home to Michael (she's seen him 3 times in 3 weeks).  Tomorrow, bright and early, she starts her 3-day orientation at the Health Sciences Center and begins her classes on Monday.  So for all intents and purposes, her sorority life is over, except for Senior stuff she'll be involved in over the next 9 months.  Bittersweet day.

AOII Recruitment/Rush

The past two weeks, Kaitlyn has been staying with us while working on Recruitment/Rush for her sorority.  Her car is all decorated up.

I took this picture right before she had to go to the "house" for skit night. It's a dress rehearsal before rush starts that the girls in all the houses put on for parents and Alumni of their sororities.

I took this picture of the girls inside the sorority house on skit night.

Kaitlyn took this picture of Joe and I.  This will probably be the last time we'll ever be in the sorority house since Kaitlyn is a senior and won't be on this campus anymore (unless it's a football game day).

It's hot here....

Since the first of August, it's been REALLY hot here.  As you can see from the shot on my iPhone, we really endured some hot weather.  Thankfully today, it's only supposed to be 100 or so and then down into the 90's for the upcoming week.

Look Ma, No Stitches

The area where the cyst was removed looks bruised, but you really can barely see the scar.  And since I part my hair on the opposite side, you REALLY can't see the scar.
