Intramurals - AOII

Kaitlyn is playing on her sorority soccer team for intramurals this spring. They won their first two games but lost the one today that Joe and I went to. Oh well, it was fun to see her play soccer again (she ended her soccer career in 2004) even though she is way out of shape. At least she knew what she was doing, some of the other girls on her team hadn't played soccer since grade school rec. Their goalie played junior college soccer so she was really good. This was pre-game waiting on Kappa Alpha Theta to show up. They waited until about 3 minutes to forfeiture to finally show.
Kaitlyn played in her old spot of defender.
Half-time pep talk.
Kaitlyn is very competitive so when things weren't going well, she moved up to play mid-field, but they still lost to the Thetas. Theta is top house on campus (Randy and Kay's daughter, Rainey, is a Theta but she doesn't play sports.)

Muzzy's Wedding

Last Saturday, March 24, Joe's mother got married to John Stephenson at The Summit Club in downtown Tulsa. Some of these pictures are out of order, so sorry! This is Kaitlyn and Michael before the wedding.
K&K
This picture was made during the reception. This is Chris with her older brother and her two younger sisters. The brunette sister, Kathy, is my age - her birthday is five days before mine.
The bride with her granddaughters and with Drew flying the finger in the background (as usual).
Drew and his mom.
Joe dancing with his mother.
The cake
This was the beginning of the wedding when Joe was giving his mother away. Jennifer was the matron of honor and John's son, Scott was the best man. The two youngest granddaughters were flower girls (my neice Taryn is on the right) and the two youngest grandsons were the ring bearers.
My nephew, Hayden is in the white shirt right here in front of me.
The kiss. He laid one on her for an old man!
Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson.
First dance.

Dancing with her grandson, Stephen.
They will live in John's house.

We drove by Carnegie Elementary School where Joe and Kristen both went to first grade!!

The happy couple before brunch on Sunday. They left on Monday for St. Maartin for their honeymoon.

Happy St. Patricks Day! (to me)

Last night I went to use my sewing machine and it messed up AGAIN. I had it repaired in November and hadn't touched it since then until last night. So I gathered it up this morning and took it to see about having it re-fixed. But before I did, I looked up when I purchased it (13 years ago) and then Joe and I talked about it. He suggested that I trade it in and get a new one - so I did!! And while I was there I purchased this cute little sewing chair too for my sewing room.
It has storage in the seat too.
I also bought this book. I was trying to re-work a t-shirt last night when my old machine messed up. The lady in the store had these books so I purchased it also. It's like having my own personal Pinterest book for recycling t-shirts!
Here's my "new" machine with the cover on. It is a refurbished machine. I'm going to try it out for 30 days and if I don't like it, I can take it back and pay a little more and upgrade to another Janome machine that's similar to this one.
It comes with a "table" to use for quilting, etc. Does a lot of stitches (more than my old machine) and came with lots of feet (for various things).
This is a picture of it with the "table" attached. I can't wait to try it out.

St. Patrick's Green Tie Gala

For the past several years, we have traveled out to Elk City, OK to attend a Mardi Gras party at a Catholic church where the mother of one of Joe's hunting buddies attends. She also usually buys a table at the OK Catholic Charities St. Patrick's Green Tie Gala. This year we opted to attend the Gala, which was held at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Here I am with the statue of John Wayne.
Here we are in the Great Hall. There are ginormous paintings of the Grand Canyon (seen behind us here), the falls in Yellowstone, Chimney Rock in Nebraska, the pacific shoreline, and the 5th one I'm not sure where that was. It's beautiful in this hall surrounded by the large paintings.

Another Prayer Shawl Completed

I completed this "stole" the other night. It's the first one I've made during this Lent season. I originally made it to go with our church on the upcoming spring break mission trip. However, I think I'm going to send this to one of Jann's clients. She has a beauty spa that she is having to let go because her step-daughter is very sick. The daughter is Kaitlyn's age and has some type of pancreas-type cancer. The client really likes me and usually only communicates with me (instead of Jann) when she wants to take a distribution. I just feel it's the right thing to do so I'm sending it to her.

Sewing Room Update

Slowly, but surely my sewing room is coming together. This is the time of year when I start sewing the t-shirt blankets for the sorority; however, this year I DID NOT volunteer. HAHA I got smart. Kaitlyn's Big Sis requested I make hers, and I will. But I'm really not planning on sewing any unless they have a few that didn't get picked up by some other moms. I figured next year I'll be back to sewing several in Kaitlyn's pledge class since they will be seniors. This is the view from the door looking in.
I've had these two computer desks since I worked at the engineering firm. I bought them when I left 20 years ago. I've used them in various places in the house as a computer desk. One has been in the garage for a few years. I put them back to back for a large sewing area.
My Janome Memory Craft sewing machine. I paid about $800 for it on sale about 15 years ago. I don't know what I'd do without it. I love it and it's soooo much better than a Singer.
My Janome Babylok Serger. I have only used this a few times in the last 10 years or so. It scares me. I need to go take classes on it AGAIN.
My Olfa cutting mat. LOVE IT! A must have for doing the t-shirt quilts or if you want to do any type of quilting.
This was one of those cubicle things that Kaitlyn bought to go in her room at the sorority house. When she moved out she gave it to me. It keeps my sewing stuff so much more organized. I can find elastic when I need it, etc. I keep my old travel iron on top with a small travel sized cutting mat on one side and ironing surface on the other.
My rotary cutting straight edges I also keep on top along with a pressing ham for opening up seams a little better. I still have Joel's old dining table I'm going to put in the room too to use for laying out material to cut out and to do crafts on with the glue gun etc. Still have a wide corner of the room that has boxes Kristen packed up when she moved out of the sorority house (5 years ago!) that need to be gone through and cleaned out before I can move the table in. At least I have my sewing corner set up!

Pictures from February and the beginning of March

My friend, Andrea, from church/prayer shawl/NHS orchestra found these little sock slippers at Dillards and bought them for me to give to Kaitlyn. She knew that the AOPi sorority mascot is a panda.
Muzzy's wedding invitation we got in the mail yesterday. And yes, her name is really Christopher; she doesn't have a middle name.
My attempt to make a King Cake for Mardi Gras. The recipe was very easy and it was very good.
I put the baby trinket inside. But of course I was the one who ended up with it. Looks like I'll be making it again next year.
Final product
The annual sorority formal date party. Kaitlyn is good - she used her formal from senior year in high school. She seems to have a better sense of recycling than Kristen did.....
I've been trying to cook some new stuff now that the picky ones don't live at home anymore. This was some steel cut oats I made into cranberry-maple oatmeal in the crock pot. It was okay. I personally like the instant just as well. I used my tiny crockpot for this. Perfect for just the two of us with a little extra left over.
