The Help

If you have not read the book or seen the movie, I highly recommend it. I thoroughly enjoyed the book several months ago. I lent the book to Jann (my boss) and then she went to see the movie. She liked it so much, we left work early on Friday and went to see it together, followed by a dinner at Red Lobster. If you're around my age or older, you'll appreciate the 60's setting, complete with the hats, gloves, automobiles, and attitudes. I give it an A+ rating.

More Decorating Tidbits

Here are a few more snippets of our bedroom re-do. I purchased the bench and baskets to keep shoes in. We still haven't put the footboard back on the end of the bed yet.

This is my bedside table. It's the "old" furniture that matches our old dresser and mirror. I think we are going to purchase some new side tables that more closely match the dresser we took from Kristen's rooom.

Again, I've been working on my side of the room. Joe hasn't moved his stuff back in there yet. And yes, the tv is off center on the wall - we had to put it on a stud.

Little by little it's coming together. There's still pictures to be hung, etc.

Recuperation Update

Well, the operation wasn't as bad as I expected, as usual. I've actually done pretty well, considering I have not taken any pain medication. The pain is just not bad enough. I think back pain is much worse, followed by child birth. This was more like a bee sting in my navel. So far I've eaten things sort of one at a time to see how it sits with me. And so far everything sits with me pretty well! I've had scrambled eggs, toast, strawberries, baked potatoes, rice, chicken broth, and finally this morning COFFEE!

Joe did mention to me last night; however, that the doctor noted on my chart they saw something (Joe couldn't remember what it was called) on my uterus (he said they didn't call it a cyst) that could possibly affect my hip (??) and that I should have my doctor check it out. Hmmm, not good. I will be seeing my ob/gyn and my regular doctor both in the same week in about a month. So I'll know more then.

Anyway, I sort of feel like a flake for waiting to go back to work until Monday. I've been taking some naps during the day, but I really don't feel too bad. I even swept up the dust bunnies in the den yesterday, I got so bored with afternoon television.

I got my very own.... prayer shawl

Last night at my prayer shawl circle meeting as we were beginning to pack up to go home. I noticed that several people were moving over beside me and I asked, "What's going on?" and they whipped out this prayer shawl and wrapped it around me. It is so beautiful and so soft. I was overwhelmed to say the least. I didn't expect it at all. I mean, I make them for other people. They were so sweet to do that. The lady that made it usually comes to our meetings but didn't come last night. She does beautiful work, doesn't she? Sorry these pictures are sideways, Joe never aims the camera the right way and I'm uploading straight to the blog so I can't turn them.

My surgery is tomorrow at 8:00 AM and we have to be there at 7:00. One of the lady ministers from our church will join me about 7:30 and pray with me before I go into surgery. My prayer shawl circle set this up too. One of the other ladies in my group is a surgical nurse and works with my surgeon but wasn't sure if she was working tomorrow. It will be a wonderful surprise if I get there and she's my nurse. I feel like I'm in safe hands with all the prayers being said over me. Will let you know how it goes in a few days. Signing off for now and love to you all... Cindy

Preview

Okay, here's a preview of our bedroom. There's still some furniture to move in, pictures to hang, etc. When I purchased the bedding, I bought everything Kohl's had in the group. This is the "quilt" instead of the comforter on the bed. In the summer time, Joe and I like to sleep under something thin. The comforter is like the yellow pillow shams. I do NOT like the bedskirt that came with the set, so I went to Wal-Mart today and bought a white bedskirt. When we get the room completed, I'll do a video. We also haven't put the footboard back on the bed yet either. I'm holding out - may not put it back on. Haven't made the final decision yet.

Gall Bladder Surgery is Scheduled

I went on Friday and had all my pre-operation lab work done and I'm having my gall bladder surgery on Wednesday, August 17. I have lost a couple of pounds these past few weeks because I'm too scared to eat anything! I'm afraid I'll have another attack and I don't want to be sick again.

The other night was "skit night" for the parents of the sorority girls. We got a sneak preview of what they will be doing for recruitment which started on Friday. I took some video but unfortunately none of it turned out very good so I'm not posting it.

Joe and I went this morning and had our picture made for the church directory. Will post some of those when we get them back in a couple of weeks.

Joe is working fast and furiously in the bedroom right now. The floor is in and he is putting the finishing touches on the room before we set the bed back up. I can't wait to sleep in my own bed. We've been sleeping in Kaitlyn's queen sized bed for a month and I'm ready to spread out again in our king bed! Will post pictures when we get everything back in and set back up so you can see the finished project.

Getting Closer

Well, Joe is getting closer and closer to having our new floor in. He should be done within the next day or so. Then we can set our bed back up. YAY! He's bought all new grounded plugs to go into the walls (a definite upgrade for us) too. I'm starting to get excited. I went yesterday and bought a bench to go at the end of our bed. Since we have a footboard on our bed, I've never been able to sit on the end of our bed and put my shoes on. I have to go way around to my side of the bed and my feet dangle off the side because I'm so short. Now that the girls are gone I can keep the laundry baskets OUT of my room at the end of my bed and put a nice bench there for me to sit and where I can keep the extra pillows while we sleep.

Let there be heat!.....and gallbladder update

Well, while the rest of you folks have been having a summer, we, the people of Oklahoma, have been sweltering. The only time it's under 100 degrees is after dark, when we might get down to 85 or so. Most days we are at 105 or higher. It was supposed to get to 113 yesterday, but showers in Oklahoma City cooled it off to 109 as I was leaving work and then down to 99 or so around 6:00. We never got any rain in Norman, though, and we desperately need it. This week we are supposed to be having the hottest temperatures EVER recorded in Oklahoma. I think Al Gore is a genius who everyone should be listening to about the global warming stuff. We are under mandatory water rationing for outside watering and it may get stiffer if we don't get some relief soon. Our lakes are way down and some of them have the toxic blue-green algae growing in them. Thank goodness the lake we frequent is spring-fed and I don't think will have that problem.

I went and visited my surgeon this morning. Joe went with me so we could ask questions. We both liked him. He suggested that I have the operation done within the next 2 weeks so I can fully recouperate before our trip to the OU-Fla State game in September. He said it could be BAD if I ended up in the emergency room in Florida with an OU shirt on (especially if we were winning). I may not get the help I need. heehee I don't really want to wait after the trip because I could have another attack while down there. Either way it's not good to wait too long. My guesstimate is probably the week of August 15. We'll see.
