Amazon Woman
Kaitlyn has her date party tonight. To make a long story short, I didn't get her costume totally finished. The leaves are hand-sewn on, the snake is "tacked" on. The head is velcroed around the neck. This is a back view.
This is the front view. It's on stretchy, nude fabric, like the kind you make skating dresses with. She's wearing brown "bootie" shorts on under it. I took pictures before she left with the dress. It may not look the same when it returns!

Kaitlyn and Michael's New Apartment
Yesterday, Joe and I helped Michael move his heavy stuff into his new apartment (we have a flat-bed trailer). He and Kaitlyn can move all the small stuff the rest of this week. She will move her stuff in there from the sorority house in about 3 weeks. This is their kitchen area. There is a mirror over the sink. I liked it. They also have a full washer and dryer, 2 bedrooms and one bath. Kaitlyn gets the walk-in closet, and Michael is using the extra bedroom as a "man-cave" office.
They look out on a tee box from their living room window.
On their patio area you can look toward the green down the fairway.
They are at the entrance to the complex/golf course.
This is looking across the entrance drive from their patio. In the distance you can see the stadium and the OU Sarkey's Energy Center (it's like 12 stories high). You can't see it in any of these pictures, though.
The apartments have only been open about a year. There are about 40 buildings of apartments and they are building more. They have a pool and a HUGE workout facility, tanning beds, etc. They can play golf for free as "members." There are several of these "communities" in/around the different metro areas of OKC.

Busy April
Wednesday, Jann asked me to come to Sherman to meet some of her clients. She was having group lunch and dinner meetings with select groups. I drove down on Wednesday morning and got there about 11. I met her lunch clients then I left and drove on down past McKinney (where Heather and Chris live) and went to the Allen Outlet Mall. I spent $208 and got 4 sweaters, 2 tops, a belt, some jeweled hair clips and a coach laptop tote. Then I drove back to Sherman and met with Jann's dinner clients and then drove home.
Thursday night, Kaitlyn danced in the Sooner Dance Company's Spring Show. She was in five dances but I'm only including one here. You could see her the best in this one. The lights went out for a few seconds in the middle of the dance. When I zoom it, it's on Kaitlyn.
Kristen finally made Boyd Street magazine. It's a bi-weekly Campus Corner magazine that has articles about goings-on around campus corner. It has a section called OTS (On The Scene) that shows group pictures at the local clubs/bars.
Here she is (on the left) with Joan, a sorority sister, and Emily, one of Kristen's roommates and also a sorority sister. They were at The Mont.
This weekend we are moving Michael into his new apartment where he and Kaitlyn will be living together when she moves out of the sorority house in 3 weeks. It's a brand new complex and it's on a golf course. They get free golf privileges (Joe's going to pretend he's Michael, I guess, to get on and play). And speaking of golf, Kristen signed up for golf lessons at Chesapeake. Four lessons for $100.00. Chesapeake offers their employees everything under the sun. I told Kristen, her grandfather would be proud of her for being interested in golf. However, she REALLY enjoys NBA basketball and loves going to the Thunder games.

Sewing Projects
I'm in a crafty mood lately. I've finished my 5th senior sorority blanket. I don't know if they need me to do more or not. I've finished the ones I originally picked up to do.
I'm now on to other things. I want to make my hat for the upcoming "High Tea" we're having in our Prayer Shawl Circle on May 1. I've never made a hat from scratch before.
I've got the shell cut out and the material purchased. I don't have any of the trim yet because I'm not sure how I want to finish it out.
Kaitlyn has a date party next weekend. The theme is "Panda-monium" (since their mascot is a Panda). Kaitlyn wants her costume to have an Amazon Woman theme. She is very creative and when she and I put our heads together, watch out! She came up with the idea of the snake, and she made the pattern herself cutting and pinning paper parts together. It fits around her body perfectly. We found some "snakelike" material and we'll sew it onto nude fabric and possibly stuff it a little to give it a dimensional effect.
I was thinking she needed some leaves so I found some patio cushion material and I'm cutting out the leaves to place on the fabric. The dress is strapless, elasticized at the top. The snake winds around her neck and will velcro to the top of the dress, in effect holding it up. I tentatively put some leaves on one of her boobs because the snake head will cover up the other one. This is a tentative lay-out. Nothing is sewed on yet. The dress is short and has slits on the sides. She has some brown booty shorts she can wear under it. Pretty cool, huh? Kaitlyn definitely takes after me and Nana and Granny when it comes to sewing. She knows what she wants and, like me, will make her own pattern when necessary. I think there's gonna be a lot of hand-sewing involved!

Trip to Fort Worth with the Prayer Shawl Group
These two pictures I added at the last minute so they are out of order from the rest. This is the pink scarf I made while on the trip yesterday. I'm using 17 needles (big) so the stitches are a lot larger. When I'm done, I'll donate it to the "stash" the church has to give out to the graduating high school seniors.
These are my purchases from the yarn shop. A pattern booklet (it was half-price), some jumbo needle holders, a shawl pin (I didn't know there was such a thing) and some yummy yarn. I love colorful yarn and this was really soft. It was the only skein they had so I'll either incorporate it as a section in one of my striped shawls or I'm going to make a headband with it. There is a pattern in the booklet below.
Our group at the Norman Train Depot before take-off. I'm on the far left with the red capris on and look like I'm going to explode. Just kidding, the over-sized shirt makes me look bigger than I am.
Looking toward the front of our car into the next car from my seat. Our group had to break up because 120 "gifted and talented" middle-schoolers were going to Fort Worth for the day too. Oh joy. I ended up sitting next to an 83-year old man wearing a straw cowboy hat. He was very sweet, and sad. His wife (second one) of 37 years had died about a month ago and he was having a hard time with his grief. I almost called Jane, the head of our Stephen Ministry at church to trade places with me on the train. I think she would have been better equipped to talk with him. I didn't want to be rude to him but I wanted to sit and knit or read in peace and quiet.

Inside the train station in Fort Worth (very nice). It is also the bus station. It's called the Intermodal Transportaton Center of Fort Worth. You can rent cars here, grab a taxi here, ride the Greyhound bus or ride the Amtrak trains.
Lunch at Mi Cocina, right outside of Sundance Square.
Jerome in the middle of one of the displays of yarn in the shop. Lots of beautiful yarn inside. I saw one skein that was like $65.00. Yikes! I'd be too afraid to use it. I saw a recent show on the Animal Planet channel that was about long-haired cats. A lady who groomed the cats took the hair and spun it into yarn, then knitted (felted) purses with it. She then sent the purse to the owner of the cat as a keepsake. The purses were really cute. It made me want to lean how to spin yarn. I would love to own a spinning wheel and learn how to do that. The lady in the show on TV was spinning the yarn by hand somehow, without a wheel.
A view from the shop of the Fort Worth skyline.
Across the street was a beautiful church. The parking lot you see that has razor wire across the top of it was a parking lot for the Dickies factory across the street from the yarn shop. Yes, the Dickies factory that makes clothing.
The hanging baskets outside the shop had yarn and knitting needles in them.
The name of the yarn shop we went to visit.
I snapped a picture of my white azaleas when I was going outside to feed the dogs this morning.
Sunny and Sally after eating their breakfast.

Ski Patrol
Joe and Kristen left today for a long weekend skiing at Winter Park. He took Kaitlyn last year in April so he owed Kristen a daddy-daughter trip. Kaitlyn is busy at school with the school year winding down. She has a Spring Show for her Sooner Dance Company troop in a few weeks so she's spending about 4 hours a day on dance practice. She was complaining that it was more than she did when she was on the pom squad back in high school. She and Michael were "approved" for an apartment (meaning they aren't serial killers or credit risks). They are very excited to move in together for real on a permanent basis. I think Kaitlyn is ready to move out of the sorority house - you know - too many cooks in the kitchen stuff. Everyone's getting "bitch-y."
Kristen, meanwhile, is lamenting the fact that "she is the only one who doesn't have a boyfriend." It doesn't help that she receives a wedding invitation in the mail about every week from one of her sorority sisters. Maybe she shouldn't have dumped the dentist last fall. Hopefully when she moves to her new apartment in the city in June (where all the future dentists/doctors live while going to the health sciences center), she'll meet a prospect. Her new apartment is about 5 minutes from Chesapeake where she works. Now she can sleep about an hour later in the mornings.
I'm going to Fort Worth again on Saturday with the ladies from my prayer shawl circle. We're riding the train down and going to visit a yarn shop close to downtown to sit and knit and make new friends! I'll try to take some pictures while I'm down there. It's supposed to be in the 90's and windy.
Joe and I and the girls are going back to Siesta Key and New Orleans again this summer. We invited Michael to go with us but he's too busy at work (he's the only one that does what he does at the television station - so there's no backup person). Lindsey, Kaitlyn's BFF is going with us again. This will be the 3rd summer she's gone on vacation with us. She is definitely like one of the family. Kristen is not bringing a friend because she's flying out of Florida after a few days with us to go to Las Vegas with a bunch of her friends to party over the memorial day weekend. I'm also looking forward to more lake action this summer. We're in a drought, and I don't see it raining much in our normally hot, dry, summer.

Medieval Faire 2011
Joe and I rode our bicycles up to OU and parked and walked across to the Medieval Faire. It was HOT outside (close to 90 degrees) but at least it was windy (about 20mph). Here some children were enjoying a camel ride. They had an elephant ride too.
I think this is the area where they have the jousting tournament.
The walking tree. This lady has been out at the faire for at least the last 5 years. She's on stilts.
And hands out goodies to children.
I liked this guy's viking hat.
A belly dancing troop performing on one of the stage areas. Why do belly dancers always seem to have a belly?????? Is that a prerequisite?
Senior Quilts continued
One of my azalea bushes bloomed. My white ones will probably bloom within the next day or so. Yes, it's definitely spring here. The Medieval Faire is today and tomorrow. This year I'm going by myself. I'm not asking anyone to go with me and I'm not waiting on anyone to go with me. I'm going by myself! Last year I waited and everyone blew me off - by then it was too late to go.
I'm also in "production mode" this weekend on the senior sorority quilts. I've got all five of them cut out. I laid out the blocks on the first one this morning, making sure I didn't have any of the same event or color beside each other.
TA DA! Finished the first one.
